Groundhog is open source multifunctional geological software.  Among other things, it can be used to display and create boreholes as well as importing and exporting the data in AGS data format.

Groundhog Bytes courses cover a small part of the longer Groundhog course.

This training course comprises a mix of written tutorials and video demonstrations together with some exercises to work through at your own pace to gain skills in overlaying maps and plans using Groundhog.

The course will start the Monday after you have ordered it - if you require a different start date please email judith@lqm.co.uk

Purchase of the course provides one person access to the course materials over a 4 week period.  The course should easily be completed in a few hours but the longer access is provided so there is plenty of additional time to practice and refer back to the course materials when using Groundhog on real projects.

Public sector rates only apply to qualifying organisations (i.e. Local Authorities, Health Authorities, the Environment Agency, SEPA, etc.).

Other Groundhog courses can be found here.

The course covers
  • Project setup and adding integrated UK  Topographic Map
  • Using georegistered image as background for sites outside the UK
  • Adding BGS geology maps
  • Importing maps and Images into Groundho data
  • Using the Map Sldier
  • Exporting images from Groundhog for use in reports

Boreholes can also be added to maps as described in the full Groundhog course and the  Groundhog Bytes course on Boreholes.

Delegates will need Windows computers (large display screens and mouse recommended)

By the end of the course you should be able to:
  • create a site location plan
  • add geology data (UK)
  • add other map based information
  • use the slider to interrogate different map layers
  • export maps and plans for use in reports
All delegates will be issued with a Certificate of Attendance – which should be retained and used to provide evidence of CPD activity when required by employers or professional bodies.

The course will be of relevance to anyone who needs to create or map based daat.

The course is particularly relevant to Consultants & SI Contractors but Regulators and anyone reviewing third party reports may also find it of benefit, as it includes details of how to quickly check the geology and add other information to you can see how key features relate to each other.

This course is focused on using examples relevant to contaminated land management but is useful to any field where maps and plans are used, eg geotechnics, ecoloyg.
