Richard Ogden is a senior environmental scientist at LQM and works principally within the Contaminated Land Group. Richard graduated with a joint honours degree in Biochemistry and Marine Biology from the University of Wales, Bangor and went on to gain his PhD studying the genetic regulation of PCB degradation in bacteria. Before joining LQM, Richard worked in the Property & Environmental Unit of the major international defence company, BAE SYSTEMS, where he was responsible for a number of major projects, mainly involving the bioremediation of explosive contaminants and wastes. In addition to this role, he was also heavily involved in introducing contaminated land quantitative risk assessment within the business unit. This included involvement in the development of the SNIFFER model. Subsequently, Richard has worked on an EA-funded project at the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology in Oxford investigating the viability of enhancing biodegradation rates using surfactants and co-solvents to increase contaminant bioavailability, and studying the effect of these techniques on microbial communities and soil health.
His current projects include assisting with the current revision of the SNIFFER Framework for deriving numeric targets to minimise the adverse human health effects of long-term exposure to contaminants in soil (Scottish Environment Protection Agency).
