Dr Paul Nathanail is a Specialist in Land Condition (SiLC) and a Chartered Geologist. Paul's expertise includes developing decision support tools for regulators and industry, developing spatial and non spatial environmental risk assessment tools and developing tools to facilitate sustainable brownfield regeneration. He has extensive contacts with industry and regulators in the UK, Europe, Africa, Asia and North America. He has recently been appointed to the Defra expert panel on contaminated land. He has acted as an expert witness in several planning, environmental and criminal cases.
Caroline McCaffrey studied Environmental Health at the University of Ulster and worked for a number of years as a Local Authority Environmental Health Officer before undertaking a two year overseas placement with an International NGO providing advice on water and sanitation issues. Following her return to the UK she completed a MSc in Contaminated Land Management at Nottingham Trent University. She joined LQM in 2000 and has been involved in a wide range of projects including site specific risk assessments, peer review work, developing and delivering training courses and a number of research projects including the development of the SNIFFER model, both editions of the LQM/CIEH Generic Assessement Criteria and the Unacceptable Intake Roadmaps.
Judith Nathanail is Company Secretary and a Senior Environmental Consultant at Land Quality Management Ltd.
She has over thirteen years experience in the field of contaminated land and has projected managed numerous site investigations. She contributes to several courses run by LQM, principally geology, site characterisation, risk assessment and remediation.
She has produced numerous conceptual models and carried out site specific risk assessments using the recently released SNIFFER methodology. She has been involved in a range of remediation projects including excavation and disposal, soil vapour extraction, air sparging and one of the first bioremediation schemes for the UK. Among other things she is currently working on developing an aide memoir of key information for contaminated land specialists covering many risk characterisation and risk assessment tools and providing essential data for designing remediation schemes for most of the currently available remediation techniques.
Andy Gillett studied Geophysics and Planetary Physics at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, followed by an MSc in Environmental Science at the University of Nottingham and subsequent PhD in modelling environmental systems. He spent 4 years as a Research Associate at the University of Nottingham modelling radioisotope and crop-environment interactions as part of a large European collaboration including institutes within those areas affected by the Chernobyl nuclear accident and weapons testing within Kazakhstan. He joined LQM in May 2000 and has worked on a wide range of waste and contaminated land related projects, including the development of the SNIFFER model, LQM’s in-house probabilistic UK human health risk assessment model, both editions of the LQM/CIEH Generic Assessement Criteria and the Unacceptable Intake Roadmaps.
Richard Ogden studied biochemistry and marine biology at Bangor University and went on to gain his PhD studying the genetics involved in the bioremediation of BTEX, PAHs and PCBs. He spent 5 years as a consultant within BAE SYSTEMS assisting with the regeneration of a number of large industrial sites but also conducting studies into the bioremediation and plant uptake of explosives and propellants. Subsequently, he moved to CEH in Oxford investigating contaminant bioavailability and the phytoremediation of organic/inorganic mixtures. He Joined LQM in March 2003. Since then he has been involved in peer review work and managing numerous projects through out the UK under both panning and Part2A. He has also ben a key member of our training team, developing and teaching a range of training courses, and has also participated in the development of the SNIFFER model, both editions of the LQM/CIEH Generic Assessement Criteria and the Unacceptable Intake Roadmaps.
